STEVENS MARKETS POLICY & RULES

The below sets out the rules and standards for all traders at Stevens Markets.

By trading with us, you agree to comply with these conditions at all times.


Section 1 – Counterfeit Goods Act

We are committed to running a safe, legal, and trusted market. Counterfeit goods damage legitimate businesses, mislead customers, and break the law.


1.1 Definition

“Counterfeit goods” include:

  • Fake or unauthorised copies of branded products
  • Goods using trademarks, logos, or brand names without permission
  • Items misrepresented as genuine when they are not
  • Goods with altered or missing serial numbers
  • Packaging, labels, or materials used to sell fakes

1.2 Legal References

The sale of counterfeit goods is illegal under UK law, including:

  • Trade Marks Act 1994
  • Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988
  • Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008

1.3 Trader Responsibilities

  • Only sell genuine, lawful products
  • Keep proof of authenticity for branded goods (receipts, invoices, brand authorisation letters)
  • Accurately describe goods and never mislead customers
  • Remove any goods we or Trading Standards deem counterfeit immediately

1.4 Prohibited Goods

You must not sell:

  • Counterfeit or fake branded goods
  • Stolen goods
  • Unsafe, recalled, or illegal products
  • Items infringing copyright, trademarks, or patents
  • Offensive or dangerous items banned by UK law

1.5 Enforcement

If counterfeit goods are found, we may:

  • Remove the goods from sale
  • Revoke your right to trade at Stevens Markets
  • Share your details with Trading Standards, police, and brand owners
  • Refuse any future bookings

Section 2 – Market Policy

2.1 Health & Safety

  • Comply with all UK health & safety legislation (Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974)
  • Stalls must be stable, safe, and hazard-free
  • Electrical equipment must be PAT tested and gas equipment safe
  • Keep fire exits and emergency routes clear
  • Food traders must be registered with their local council and hold valid food hygiene certificates

2.2 Rubbish & Waste

  • All traders must take their own rubbish away at the end of the market
  • Market bins are for public use only
  • No dumping of waste, boxes, or unwanted stock on site
  • Recycle where possible

2.3 Trading Times & Operations

  • Traders must follow the Market Manager’s instructions on arrival, set-up, trading hours, and pack-down
  • No early packing down unless authorised by the Market Manager
  • All traders must leave the site promptly after trading as instructed

Section 3 – Enforcement & Penalties

Failure to follow these rules may result in:

  • Verbal or written warnings
  • Removal from the market without refund
  • Permanent ban from Stevens Markets
  • Reporting to authorities where applicable
